Safety

Safety has headed in two separate directions, thanks to the new functional (silo) re-organization, with I&M continuing business as usual and C&E moving to an auditing type structure. Regardless of which silo you report to, please keep safety as your number one priority. Your Local works diligently to ensure the company provides a safe working environment and to keep safety where it belongs, number one.

Work center security checks appear to be here to stay. Trucks, equipment, gates, doors and tools need to be properly secured when they are left unattended. ID badges should be worn at all times when on the job.

A recent observation during a work center security check noted there were items such as safety glasses above the visor. The company has asked that when you have items such as this to leave in your truck over night, please leave them in your driver seat, understanding that you will have to move them to a secure location before operating the vehicle.

When in doubt about safety policy or procedure, please ask your manager for clarification. If in doubt about the clarification you receive, please contact Local 3215.

CONES- If you're stopped place them front and rear. One cone doesn't cut it.

CHOCKS- If you stop it, chock it.

SAFETY GLASSES- Will be worn any time you're working. Clear safety glasses are required when working indoors.

HARD HATS- If your feet are off the ground you must have one on. Also required when working in attics, crawl spaces, man holes and hard hat construction areas.

FVD- Must be on you or within arm's reach when in a working environment. Don't place it on metallic closures as they may become energized. Use it on any object that could become energized.

BODY BELTS- Must be worn every time you go up a pole.

LANYARDS- Must be worn every time you are in a bucket.

LADDER STRAP- Will be used every time you set up a ladder on a pole.

DOT LOG BOOKS- Must be completed daily. They are being checked.

CELL PHONES & TECHNETS- Don't use them while driving. Pull over and turn on your hazard lights.

SEAT BELTS- Buckle up any time the vehicle is moving. This is Company policy and State law.

HOUSEKEEPING- Remove all loose items from cab. Nothing can be stored above the visor. Anything in the cab must be secured.

PARKING- Your first choice is a pull-through spot. Backing is a last choice. Don't park in a curve or across from a driveway. Park away from the entrance of a building, not right in front. Always choose your parking spot carefully.

NO JOB IS SO IMPORTANT AND NO SERVICE IS SO URGENT THAT WE CANNOT TAKE THE TIME TO PERFORM OUR WORK SAFELY.
